Early copies of Resident Evil Requiem have started appearing in the wild, prompting fans to sound the alarm about potential spoilers. With the game's release just around the corner, players are being advised to steer clear of online spaces to avoid learning key plot details—including the ultimate fate of beloved character Leon S. Kennedy in Capcom's highly anticipated title.

Capcom has positioned Resident Evil Requiem as a special entry in the series, marking a return to the franchise's roots to tie up long-running storylines. The game features fan-favorite characters like Leon and what appears to be Sherry, all set against the backdrop of a much-hyped return to Raccoon City. As the Resident Evil franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary, some fans speculate this could be the final appearance for certain characters as Capcom moves the series forward. (Though, while a dashing uncle Leon is one thing, a silver-fox grandad Leon might stretch credibility.)

Given the high stakes, there's heightened anxiety about plot leaks. Many fans are now planning to go completely offline in the coming days to protect their experience. Noted Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem, who accurately predicted Leon's involvement months before Capcom's official announcement, confirmed the early sightings. "I can personally verify there is at least one person out there who bought Resident Evil Requiem from a store selling early," they wrote. "Funnily enough, it's someone I vaguely know and have chatted with a few times. No spoilers are out there yet, but brace yourselves."

The leaker also shared a link to an image showing a boxed PlayStation 5 copy of Resident Evil Requiem in the wild. To avoid spoilers, the best strategy is to minimize internet use ahead of the February 27 release—now just 10 days away—especially steering clear of YouTube and Twitch comments where spoilers often lurk. Muting relevant keywords on social media is also recommended.

IGN, committed to keeping coverage spoiler-free, recently shared hands-on impressions after playing about four hours of the game. "After getting hands-on with a total of about four hours of Resident Evil Requiem at this point, and sharing that experience with colleagues, I’m more excited for the series than I have been in recent memory," IGN wrote. "It’s the old mixed with the new, but all in a modern package with two protagonists I already like a lot."
