Konami has taken down two classic Metal Gear titles, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, from digital platforms. This move came shortly after the company unveiled Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 during last week's State of Play event, which confirmed both games will return with enhancements for PC and consoles in August 2026. Notably, this marks the first time MGS4 will be accessible beyond the PS3 when the collection launches on August 27, 2026.
Soon after the announcement, gamers observed that the original versions had vanished from PlayStation and Xbox stores. Speculation suggests Konami might be preventing confusion with pre-orders for the new bundle, though some suspect it's a tactic to drive sales toward the upcoming release. While these games were previously limited to older hardware like PSP, PS3, and Xbox 360, MGS4 had been available via PlayStation streaming.
IGN has reached out to Konami for clarification. The publisher previously launched Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 in October 2023, which faced a rocky start and included leaks hinting at more re-releases. Fans had to wait until August 2024 for an official 'stay tuned' message.
