PlayStation has officially shut down Bluepoint Games, the acclaimed studio responsible for the highly praised remakes of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls. Bloomberg confirmed the closure with PlayStation, reporting that approximately 70 employees will be affected when the studio closes its doors next month.

A PlayStation spokesperson told Bloomberg, "Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community. We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftsmanship."

According to previous Bloomberg reports, Bluepoint had been developing a live-service God of War game until its cancellation in January 2025. Following that setback, the studio spent the past year pitching new projects but ultimately faced closure before any could gain momentum.

Founded in 2006 by former Retro Studios employees, Bluepoint built its reputation through numerous PlayStation projects. The studio worked on several game collections including the God of War Collection, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. Bluepoint also provided support on ports for games like PlayStation All-Stars, Flower, and Titanfall.

Bluepoint's breakthrough came with its 2018 remake of Shadow of the Colossus, followed by the 2020 remake of Demon's Souls - both receiving critical and fan acclaim. Sony acquired the studio in 2021 following the success of Demon's Souls. Under Sony's ownership, Bluepoint contributed to co-development work on God of War Ragnarok but did not release or announce any new standalone titles.
