The Rust Belt is bracing for a tempest as developer Embark Studios has unveiled the first glimpse of a new Hurricane map condition arriving in Arc Raiders. The studio lifted the veil on Shrouded Sky, its upcoming major content update, through a website post, offering a sneak peek at how hurricanes will ravage maps like Spaceport. This promises to be the most perilous weather yet in the video game set in southern Italy.
While players have previously contended with Powerful Electromagnetic Storms and wintry Cold Snap conditions, Embark asserts that Arc Raiders has never encountered anything like this. Launching on February 24 with Shrouded Sky, Raiders will face fierce winds that could reshape their strategies in both PvP and PvE encounters.
Scavenging for topside resources and blueprints during a hurricane will force players to adapt to the wind's whims. For instance, moving with the storm might grant a slight speed advantage, but heading against it will slow movement and deplete stamina. Items like gas grenades, trailblazers, and other throwables will also behave unpredictably as winds intensify.
The trailer highlights reduced visibility during hurricanes, but Embark warns players to watch out for flying debris as well. As with other map conditions, the heightened danger comes with greater rewards: today's post hints at Raider Caches and First Wave relics for those daring enough to weather the storm.
Shrouded Sky is Embark's major February update, following January's Headwinds update, which introduced a solo vs. squads queue option and the Bird City map condition. In contrast, Shrouded Sky is packed with a Raider Deck, map updates, and a new Arc threat—hinted at in the trailer's closing moments. Players can also expect a rank reset with the launch of the next Expedition the following day.
Looking ahead, the Arc Raiders roadmap promises the Flashpoint update in March, featuring another map condition, and Riven Tides in April, which will introduce a brand-new map to raid. Earlier this month, we interviewed Embark CEO Patrick Söderlund to discuss the studio's plans for this popular extraction shooter and how its success is paving the way for a promising future. Meanwhile, the team continues its efforts to combat cheating by suspending players who exploit in-game vulnerabilities.
