Capcom has partnered with a Japanese infomercial-style company to release an unusual and extremely limited edition of Resident Evil Requiem that includes fitness gear. The 'Terrifying Nightmare Set,' created in collaboration with e-commerce and talent management firm Yume Group, was limited to just 50 units and priced at 19,800 yen (approximately $127). It sold out completely in under five hours, with fans snapping it up faster than they'd flee from Mr. X in the game.
The set includes a copy of Resident Evil Requiem for either PS5 or Switch 2, along with a full-sized pull-up bar for exercise. Yes, you read that correctly—a pull-up bar.
Yume Group, known in Japan for its catchphrase 'make it cheaper!' and shopping channel-style product sales, promoted the bundle with a tongue-in-cheek commercial. The ad features Yume Group president Shigehiro Ishida and singer Yuri Hoshina promoting the game in their signature style, with Ishida highlighting selling points and Hoshina responding enthusiastically. Resident Evil Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi makes a cameo in the commercial, wearing industrial workwear and an unconvincing wig, while discussing the game's dual protagonists Grace and Leon and its blend of horror and action.
But why include a pull-up bar? According to the product's store page, the 'Dream Hanging Health Device' is meant to help gamers relieve tension after battling zombies and solving puzzles. 'When you’re tired from gaming, hang on tight. It'll loosen up your back and shoulders stiff from fright!' the description advises. The commercial humorously shows footage of Grace Ashcroft hanging upside down from the game's reveal trailer.
Other moments in the ad include Hoshina cheerfully noting that the game is 'easy for even beginners to start playing,' while the 'You are Dead' game over screen appears in the background. There's also a claim that the exercise equipment can double as a laundry dryer on rainy days.
When official Resident Evil accounts in Japan began posting the Yume Group infomercial on February 20th, some users initially thought it was a parody. One commenter on X noted, 'I started watching it with a smirk, laughing at the image of Grace hanging upside down on the device but then went dead serious when the detailed purchase rules and phone number came up 'Huh? They’re actually selling this?!''
Despite the initial disbelief, the Terrifying Nightmare Set sold out quickly. Perhaps some Resident Evil fans are inspired to build biceps worthy of wielding a chainsaw like Leon S. Kennedy, whose new look has garnered attention.
This isn't the first time Resident Evil has seen an unexpected special edition. Fans might recall Resident Evil 6’s Leather Jacket Edition from 2012, which included a replica of Leon’s coat and retailed for 109,000 yen (about $1,300 at the time).
