During the closing days of the Winter Olympics, a pair of figure skaters captivated audiences with a spectacular Mortal Kombat-themed performance that's absolutely worth watching.

Georgian skaters Anastasiia Metelkina and Luka Berulava crafted this brilliant routine for the Olympics' more relaxed Exhibition Gala, taking to the ice dressed as Kitana and Sub-Zero. The duo exchanged mock punches while gliding to the fighting game franchise's iconic Techno Syndrome soundtrack. While thankfully there were no actual fatalities or bloodshed on the ice, the routine concluded with Sonya's signature kiss of death—definitely not a friendship moment.

Social media reactions were mixed but passionate. Reddit user Filmmakernick shared: 'This actually brought tears to my eyes. Maybe it's nostalgia hitting me as I get older, but I never imagined seeing something like this on such a massive Olympic stage! What an incredible moment for Mortal Kombat fans, and what a breathtaking skating performance too! The costumes and hidden references were perfect. Truly beautiful.' Meanwhile, user umeys offered more critical feedback: 'No spine rip? Only 2 out of 10.'

This creative tribute arrives during an active period for the Mortal Kombat franchise. Last year saw the release of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, bringing numerous classic games from the series to PC, Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.

Looking ahead, the Mortal Kombat 2 movie is scheduled to premiere on May 8, with Karl Urban returning as Johnny Cage. In December, producer Todd Garner responded to competitive remarks made during The Game Awards by the cast of the upcoming Street Fighter film (set for October release), stating firmly: 'I don't climb over others to get ahead.'
