Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil Requiem, has disclosed that Capcom initially harbored reservations about whether the Nintendo Switch 2 could handle the demands of their upcoming survival horror title. In a recent Creator's Voice episode on Nintendo's YouTube channel, Nakanishi explained that the development team was 'skeptical' after first examining the console's form factor. However, after a 'triple take,' they quickly concluded it could run the full game 'as-is.'

Nakanishi remarked, 'The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts enhanced graphical specifications, so we questioned if Requiem would be compatible—and it performed effortlessly. When our team first held it, we shared that skepticism, prompting us to double-check. We found ourselves asking, 'Is this truly operating on the Nintendo Switch 2?' The seamless performance led us to proceed with the game unchanged for this platform. In handheld mode, with such impressive specs, the visuals are outstanding.'

Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch this Friday, February 27, simultaneously on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. While recent Resident Evil titles have appeared on Nintendo systems, Requiem marks the first new series entry to debut on a Nintendo console at launch since 2012's Resident Evil Revelations. Nakanishi noted, 'It's been quite a while since a new Resident Evil game has released on a Nintendo platform day-and-date with others. I hope this offers an opportunity for those who typically avoid the series to give it a try. I'd be delighted if they discover aspects like 'So this is what Resident Evil gameplay feels like' or 'Here's what makes it engaging.'

In a separate revelation, Nakanishi confirmed that a classic enemy from Resident Evil: Revelations was inspired by a foe from The Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. The armored Scarmiglione, which uses its shield-like arm to obstruct aim, mimics the tactics of Zelda's Iron Knuckles, who similarly block Link's arrows with their shields. Nakanishi shared, 'During Revelations' development, we created the Scarmiglione, an enemy that adjusts its shield when targeted. Honestly, this design drew inspiration from the armored soldier in Zelda 2. This is my first time admitting that.'

As the release date approaches, the internet has been inundated with full story spoilers, prompting Capcom to vow 'firm action' against those responsible. The company suspects that the 'numerous gameplay videos' circulating online, some containing major spoilers and verified clips of the finale by IGN, originated from illegally obtained copies. Yesterday, Hideki Kamiya, director of Resident Evil 2 and a renowned developer, expressed strong disapproval, stating that individuals who take pleasure in spoiling surprises for others 'deserve a thousand deaths' and 'should be cursed to never play games again.'
