Publisher and developer Nacon has filed for insolvency, casting uncertainty over upcoming titles like GreedFall 2, Hell is Us, RoboCop, and Test Drive Unlimited. The company, which operates 16 development studios alongside its publishing division, was compelled to take this step after its majority shareholder, Bigben Interactive, defaulted on a loan repayment. Nacon has now petitioned a French court to restructure its debt.
In a statement, Nacon explained, "This procedure aims to explore all viable options to sustain the company's operations under optimal conditions, safeguard employees, and preserve jobs, while renegotiating with creditors in a calm and constructive environment." The court is scheduled to rule on the matter in early March.
Nacon's portfolio includes several AA games, notably GreedFall 2: The Dying World, set to release its full 1.0 version on March 12. The company recently announced its annual Nacon Connect showcase for March 4, where it plans to highlight titles such as Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, The Mound, Edge of Memories, and Endurance Motorsport Series. Additionally, Nacon just rolled out the third major update for Dragonkin: The Banished, which remains in Early Access.
Recent releases include Styx: Blades of Greed last week, RoboCop: Rogue City - Unfinished Business from last year, and Rogue Factor's Hell is Us. IGN has reached out to Nacon for comment on its ability to continue releasing and supporting its games.
Bigben Interactive, which holds 56.72% of Nacon's share capital and 65.79% of voting rights, disclosed last week that it couldn't make a partial €43 million repayment due to its banking pool's unexpected refusal to honor a drawdown notice. This prompted Nacon to issue a financial market warning and suspend trading of its shares.
Nacon's current hope is to secure court approval for debt restructuring. If successful, its existing liabilities would be frozen for up to 18 months, during which the company would develop a continuation plan to ensure recovery through debt reorganization.
