Sony Santa Monica, the studio behind the acclaimed God of War series, is reportedly developing a significant spinoff title centered on Faye, the wife of Kratos and mother of Atreus.
Speculation about Sony Santa Monica's next project has intensified in recent weeks. This follows an initial hint from Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, who suggested the studio's upcoming work was "not a new IP but it might feel like one." Over the weekend, a writer's LinkedIn profile, which mentioned involvement in "a new franchise within the God of War universe," was widely circulated online. Subsequently, well-known leaker NateTheHate claimed the game would focus on the character Faye, a detail IGN has also corroborated.
NateTheHate, who has a reliable history of leaking video game information, stated: "Yes, the game is set within the God of War universe & the lead character will be Fay. Current plan: Reveal this year/release first half 2027 — barring any delay."
Faye, also known as Laufey, plays a crucial role in the narrative of Sony Santa Monica's Norse God of War games, especially in God of War Ragnarök, where she is voiced by Deborah Ann Woll, known for her roles in True Blood and Daredevil. The 2018 God of War begins with Faye already deceased, and the plot revolves around fulfilling her final wish to scatter her ashes from the highest peak in the Nine Realms. The game's ending reveals her identity as a Jötunn, or Frost Giant. God of War Ragnarök further explores her character through flashback-like dream sequences.
A game focused on Faye would likely serve as a prequel to God of War (2018), potentially featuring minimal involvement from Kratos.
Last month, Sony made several other God of War announcements during its February State of Play broadcast. Notably, it confirmed a God of War Trilogy Remake project, which aims to revitalize Kratos' classic Greek adventures, though development is still in early stages.
