PlayStation users are tricking their friends by adding Grand Theft Auto VI to their Recently Played lists, even though Rockstar's highly anticipated open-world crime game isn't scheduled for release until November. Over the weekend, PlayStation Game Size, a source that tracks updates to the PlayStation database, revealed that GTA 6's title IDs (PPSA01547_00 and PPSA29660_00) had been added, hinting that pre-orders might start soon. While it's unclear why there are two IDs, PlayStation Game Size noted this is normal, possibly due to different regions, with all editions using the same title ID.
With the PSN ID for GTA 6 now public, players have been having fun exploiting a glitch that adds 'Grand Theft Auto VI' to their PSN profile's Recently Played list, as shown by the X/Twitter account @videotechuk_. For example, you can check out PSN profile 'Ousora1,' one of the users who pulled off the glitch. Of course, this doesn't mean anyone has actually played GTA 6—it's just a glitch. But that hasn't stopped fans from trying to replicate it, with many eager to learn how it's done.
On the GTA 6 subreddit, users have been sharing their experiences. One redditor, Brief-Yogurtcloset42, posted an image showing GTA 6 under 'recently played' and called it a 'cool glitch.' Others joked about the situation, with one fan saying, 'So people are genuinely going to all that effort, just to make it look like they’ve played a game they haven’t actually played?' and another quipping, 'Dang we really got GTA 6 glitches before GTA 6.'
Interestingly, a similar trick has been possible on the Xbox store for a while. For instance, I was able to 'install' the game from the mobile app to my Xbox Series X and attempt to run it from the dashboard, which doesn't work, but it fooled my friends into thinking I'd played GTA 6.
As a result, some fans believe Rockstar will soon make significant announcements about GTA 6, possibly including a new trailer and the launch of pre-orders. However, it's worth noting that last month, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar's parent company Take-Two, stated that marketing for GTA 6 will begin this summer ahead of its confirmed release date of November 19, 2026.
The price of GTA 6 is a hot topic in the gaming community, with speculation that Rockstar might charge up to $100. While there's no concrete evidence yet, once pre-orders go live, the cost is sure to spark widespread discussion. Zelnick has also denied rumors that GTA 6 will be a digital-only release at launch, telling Variety there are no such plans, despite reports suggesting a physical launch delay to 2027 to prevent leaks.
GTA 6 has already faced multiple leaks, including development footage and its first trailer, along with numerous AI-generated fakes. Developer Rockstar North also dealt with a boiler room incident last month that required multiple fire crews. Earlier this year, an employment tribunal rejected an application for interim relief on behalf of fired GTA 6 developers at Rockstar Games.
