Back in early 2026, Saber Interactive gave us our initial glimpse of their currently Untitled John Wick Game during a Sony State of Play presentation. Beyond a stunning cinematic trailer, however, details about the project have remained scarce. Recently, IGN managed to chat with Saber's Chief Creative Officer, Tim Willits, and extracted a few more intriguing tidbits.

A John Wick video game feels like an obvious move. Conceptually, it's all about gun-fu action—not too far removed from the bullet-time combat of Remedy's Max Payne or the hand-to-hand melee combos of Sifu. Interestingly, Max Payne has already been adapted into a film, while Sifu is currently in production at Netflix under John Wick director Chad Stahelski. So, transitioning the Keanu Reeves-led movie franchise into gaming represents a natural flip of the adaptation process.

Willits echoes this perspective. "What's great about the Wick series is that when you watch the films, they almost play out like video games," he explains. "You encounter groups of enemies, then some tougher opponents, followed by a boss fight, and the cycle repeats. Bringing that kind of action into a video game is incredibly exciting. It's going to feel like you're watching a movie—that's all I can reveal for now."

While the exact structure of the game is still under wraps, we can speculate that it might follow a level-based action format similar to classics like Max Payne, given the enemy progression Willits described. What we do know is the game's setting on the John Wick timeline, which could significantly influence its gameplay style.

"Yes, it's set before the first movie," Willits confirms. "You can kind of tell because in the reveal trailer, he's getting fitted for his suit and appears slightly younger."

Since this John Wick story is a prequel, Saber aims to make the combat feel a bit more raw and instinctual compared to the polished action seen in the films. This approach should provide a satisfying sense of progression as players presumably gain experience and unlock skills, evolving into the feared Baba Yaga assassin portrayed by Keanu Reeves in the original movie. Importantly, it also means the character isn't driven by the tragic loss of his dog, sparing players from reliving that heartbreaking moment.

As we inch closer to the game's release, more details about the Untitled John Wick Game will undoubtedly surface. Willits is particularly enthusiastic about getting it into players' hands, calling it "Saber's biggest announcement we've ever made."

For a developer that has become highly skilled at adapting existing IP into games, this is a bold statement. Saber's track record includes the successful Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and Evil Dead: The Game, along with upcoming titles like John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, Jurassic Park: Survival, and Hellraiser: Revival.
