Embark Studios, the developer responsible for Arc Raiders and The Finals, has announced a mutual separation from co-founder and Chief Creative Officer Rob Runesson. This decision follows public allegations of sexual misconduct involving a prominent The Finals streamer, despite an external legal investigation that the studio says did not confirm the claims.

The allegations surfaced approximately one month ago when The Finals streamer Balise read them aloud during a broadcast. An anonymous individual later circulated a Google Document detailing the accusations across various The Finals community platforms. According to the document, the anonymous source communicated with a popular female The Finals streamer who reportedly described being in a romantic and sexual relationship with Runesson. The streamer allegedly expressed discomfort over Runesson's requests for sexual conversations and favors, and concerns about a conflict of interest, but felt unable to refuse due to financial reliance on his promotion of her streams. The anonymous accuser claims to have reported the behavior to an Embark community lead but was not informed of any investigation at that time.

In response, Embark released a full statement: "Our leadership team was recently made aware of allegations against an Embark employee. We take these matters seriously, and as a part of our process for addressing any types of allegations, we immediately hired a law firm to conduct an external investigation. The investigation did not substantiate the allegations, but we found the situation unsustainable and mutually agreed to part ways with Rob."

Runesson, a co-founder alongside former EA DICE colleagues Magnus Nordin, Stefan Strandberg, Patrick Söderlund, Jenny Huldschiner, and Johan Andersson, has been a visible figure for Embark as the studio gained recognition through The Finals and Arc Raiders, engaging in interviews and community interactions.

This controversy coincides with another issue in The Finals community, where multiple male esports players have been accused of inappropriate behavior toward women. In a Discord statement from one month ago, Embark announced it would pause its current esports initiatives while evaluating its competitive system, stating, "We have reviewed these concerns carefully, including with external legal counsel, and are confident that at this time, our decisions and actions have been appropriate and within the scope of our responsibilities as a publisher and organizer. We take these matters seriously."
