Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind Alan Wake, has rolled out the last major update for FBC: Firebreak, its multiplayer spinoff from Control that has struggled to attract a substantial player base. This final patch introduces a Friend Pass feature, allowing up to three players to join in even if only one person owns the game. Additionally, the price of FBC: Firebreak has been permanently lowered to $19.99.
In a recent statement, Remedy confirmed that while no new content will be developed for the game, servers will remain operational for the foreseeable future. The studio has committed to maintaining the game with necessary patches to ensure ongoing playability. "Open House marks the final major update for FBC: Firebreak," Remedy explained. "We will not be adding new playable content after this. However, FBC: Firebreak will stay online and be playable for years to come. We've implemented engineering solutions to sustain relay servers even with lower player counts."
The update also includes five new combat arenas repurposed from Control for the Endless Shift mode, along with adjustments to healing and harmful conditions for better management. Perks have been revamped, now limited to one equippable perk per player.
Released in June 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, FBC: Firebreak received mixed reviews and failed to gain a large following. Even dedicated fans of Remedy's narrative-driven games approached this title with skepticism, as it was developed alongside the studio's traditional single-player projects. Notably, Remedy's CEO resigned just four months after launch, though he described Firebreak as "technically successful."
Looking ahead, Remedy is focusing on Control Resonant, a full single-player sequel that promises to return to the studio's signature psychedelic action. IGN recently previewed the game, noting, "After experiencing Control Resonant’s aggressive, fast-paced combat firsthand, I’m even more excited to play it." The company is also working on remakes of Rockstar's Max Payne and Max Payne 2, though updates on these projects have been scarce lately.
