Pearl Abyss has just released a new patch for Crimson Desert, arriving just one day after announcing upcoming improvements. This update brings many of the promised changes ahead of schedule, along with some unexpected additions that fans will appreciate.
Key features highlighted on the Crimson Desert website include a new option to hide weapons from your character's back, making shields less intrusive. Secondary playable characters now have enhanced skills, improving their viability in gameplay, and various user interface tweaks have been implemented for a smoother experience.
However, the patch includes several unannounced surprises. For instance, Pearl Abyss has enhanced the usability of the Greymane camp, though specifics are kept vague to avoid spoilers. Abyss puzzles have been made easier with added hints and clearer indicators for using Force Palm on certain gimmicks. Additionally, Kliff gains a new ability called Focused Aerial Roll.
Personally, the standout improvements are for Damiane and Oongka, characters previously overlooked due to limited functionality. They now possess abilities similar to Kliff's, allowing players to utilize them more effectively in open-world activities. While the main story still focuses on Kliff, Damiane and Oongka are now much more viable options.
Other notable changes include fast travel now being accessible while mounted, falling, swimming, or climbing walls, essentially enabling travel at any non-combat moment. Quality-of-life enhancements feature updated icons for treasure chests, caves, and Abyss locations, distinguishing between visited and unvisited or restored and unrestored areas.
This patch offers plenty to explore, with more improvements on the horizon as outlined this week. Future updates are expected to introduce new pets, mounts, outfits, storage changes, 're-blockading,' and new difficulty options.
The rapid pace of these game-changing updates raises questions about how Pearl Abyss manages it all. Crimson Desert has sold 4 million copies, proving to be a major success for the developer. It maintains strong player engagement on Steam, with fans investing hundreds of hours into its open world. Much of this ongoing success can be attributed to recent updates, which have significantly improved the game since its mixed launch reception.
Clearly, there's even more to look forward to in the coming months.
