Bethesda's expansive space RPG, Starfield, appears to be heading to the Nintendo Switch 2, according to a new listing from the Taiwan ratings board. The discovery, made by Universonintendo, shows the game was approved for release on the upcoming console just this week, though no specific launch date has been announced.
This development comes after Starfield recently launched on PlayStation 5, nearly three years following its initial debut on PC and Xbox Series X/S. Marketed as the next major franchise from the creators of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, the spacefaring role-playing game has garnered a somewhat mixed reception.
Bethesda has rolled out numerous updates to incorporate features requested by the community, though the studio recently clarified that its latest significant update does not constitute a "2.0" version of the game. "If you're a fan of Starfield, we believe you'll appreciate this," said Bethesda development chief Todd Howard last month. "These are updates that alter the game in a broader, more integrated manner rather than in isolation."
Rumors of a Switch 2 version have circulated for months, though Bethesda has yet to make any official announcement. With technical issues currently affecting players on PS5, the developer will likely aim to ensure a smooth experience whenever Starfield eventually arrives on Nintendo's new hardware.
Microsoft has previously released other former console exclusives on the Switch, including Grounded and Pentiment. Bethesda's Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is scheduled to launch on Switch 2 next month, with an Oblivion Remastered edition also slated for release later this year.
In 2023, Howard reflected on the advantages of Starfield being an Xbox exclusive at the time, noting the strong brand association Nintendo enjoys with its first-party titles. "People often connect specific brands with certain games," he remarked. "When you think of Zelda, you think of the Switch, and there are instances where that connection can be quite beneficial."
