Daredevil star Charlie Cox has at last experienced Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for himself, following previous admissions where he felt like a 'total fraud' when fans praised his involvement in the game.

In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the Marvel actor solely provided the voice for the character Gustave, without participating in full performance capture. This meant his recording sessions were brief, while another actor handled the motion capture separately.

Back in June last year, Cox confessed to feeling like a 'total fraud' whenever someone enthusiastically mentioned Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, noting he had recorded all his lines in roughly four hours. The next month, when questioned about the game again, he admitted he still hadn't played it and needed to purchase a new console first. 'I remember being in the studio and thinking, 'This is beautiful, the visuals are extraordinary,'' Cox recalled. 'They've come a long way since Mario 64, which is probably the last computer game I played.'

Then, in November, Cox emphasized that any awards he might receive for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 should rightfully go to French motion capture artist Maxence Cazorla. 'Yes, I'm thrilled for this nomination,' Cox stated. 'I've said this before and I think it's important to say: there's an amazing French actor, by the name of Maxence Cazorla, who did almost all of the motion capture for that role in that game. So any nomination or credit I get, I really have to give to him — I believe that the performance of that character is really down to him, and my voice was just part of that process.' Cox had been nominated for Best Performance at The Game Awards 2025 for his role in Clair Obscur, but the award went to his co-star Jennifer English.

Now, in a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Cox shared an update, revealing he's finally given Clair Obscur a shot. 'I've since played a bit of it,' he said. 'Not the whole thing, I haven't completed it.' He added, 'I've played the opening bit for a while and kind of walked around and met the people and garnered the information and all that kind of stuff. Not very well.' Cox continued, 'I'm not very good, because obviously, it's a skill set, but I've played it.'

Last month, it came to light that Cox is working on a new video game project. Speaking to the YouTube channel Agents of Fandom, he mentioned that his role in Clair Obscur — his first in video games — had 'opened a new avenue for my professional work' and motivated him to take on another game project this year, one where he is 'much more involved.'
