The updates for Crimson Desert keep rolling in, with a major patch set to arrive in the coming days. Developer Pearl Abyss hasn't released full patch notes yet, but it has confirmed that the next update will include new special mounts and an extraction feature that lets players recover materials used in equipment refinement. And that's not all—there's plenty more coming too.

While new special mounts are straightforward, the extraction feature is a game-changer. It allows players to reclaim materials they've invested in refining their equipment, saving significant time. In Crimson Desert's endgame, refining items to boost stats is a major focus, and high-level materials are often scarce. This feature should make the grind toward max gear a bit less tedious.

Refining is crucial in Crimson Desert because character stats primarily come from equipped gear. Upgrading equipment through refinement is essential for tackling tougher challenges, especially harder bosses.

However, Pearl Abyss's wording is vague. Will players recover rare items like Abyss Cores, or only basic materials like ores? Abyss Cores are used for equipment customization and are socketed into gear, but do they count as materials here? We'll find out when the update and its patch notes are released.

The pace of updates, arriving almost weekly since launch, is impressive. In a recent interview, Pearl Abyss PR and marketing director Will Powers cited MMO Black Desert, which has received weekly updates for over a year, as inspiration for Crimson Desert's post-launch support. Crimson Desert originally started as an MMO follow-up to Black Desert before being reworked into a single-player game, and some MMO elements remain in its design.
