Shift Up has confirmed that the sequel to Stellar Blade will not be published by PlayStation, potentially signaling a multiplatform launch for the upcoming game. The Korean developer will handle publishing duties itself for Stellar Blade 2 (or whatever the final title may be), stating in an earnings release that this move will help communicate the franchise's "unique appeal" to players "more directly and effectively."

The original Stellar Blade launched as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive in April 2024, with a PC port following in June 2025. It was well-received on both platforms, with players praising its mix of NieR: Automata and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice gameplay.

While fans have hoped for additional ports—particularly to Switch or Switch 2—Shift Up has yet to confirm any. However, in the same earnings presentation, the company said it is "actively exploring further platform expansion" for the first game. No release window for the sequel has been set yet.

"Development of the next Stellar Blade title is progressing smoothly, on track to meet our targeted quality standards," Shift Up stated. "Notably, starting with this next title, Shift Up will transition to a first-party service model. This will allow us to lead marketing strategies that fully reflect the distinctive identity of the Stellar Blade IP, and we expect to communicate the unique appeal of its universe to players more directly and effectively."

The developer added: "With three key tailwinds – high-quality self-publishing capabilities, a sales maximization strategy, and a proven IP fanbase – we are confident the next title will deliver meaningfully improved results compared to its predecessor."

IGN's Stellar Blade review scored a 7/10, calling the hack-and-slash adventure "a gorgeous and well-crafted action game with very impressive strengths and very clear weaknesses."
