Battlefield 6's New Map Tackles a Major Airspace Problem

Battlefield 6 has introduced a new map that addresses one of the game's most significant issues: limited airspace. The latest map, Railway to Golmud, is a remake of a classic from Battlefield 4 and is already massive, but it offers even more room for pilots. The out-of-bounds area for air vehicles extends far beyond the infantry and ground vehicle play zone, allowing for dogfights without interference from anti-air vehicles.

A core feature of the Battlefield series is all-out warfare, with players using various vehicles, including air vehicles, to dominate objectives. However, in Battlefield 6, most maps have cramped airspace, forcing pilots to hit out-of-bounds barriers and turn back. This leaves little room for aerial combat and makes it hard to evade anti-air lock-ons.

While this doesn't fix every map, there's hope for improvements later this year. EA has committed to reworking New Sobek City and Blackwell Fields, two maps with particularly poor airspace. Both are small, leading to constant lock-ons with no room to break them. The reworks are expected to address this, but their effectiveness remains to be seen.

Battlefield 6 will also tackle another major issue: content pacing. Fans have been disappointed with slow updates and small content drops. Season 3 just launched, with two more seasonal updates planned this year. Season 5 aims to include three new maps instead of two, addressing the live-service problem.
