Independent video game stores across the U.S. have been receiving unexpected shipments of one of the PS4's rarest titles, Poop Slinger. The game, originally released digitally on PSN in 2018 and physically in 2019, was produced by Limited Rare Games—not to be confused with the more prominent Limited Run Games. Due to low demand, only a few hundred copies were manufactured, with fewer than 100 believed to be in circulation. Sony requires a minimum of 1,000 copies for physical releases, leaving the fate of the remaining 900+ units a mystery. The game's scarcity drove online prices to over $1,000 on eBay.
Last week, those missing copies began appearing at mom-and-pop stores. YouTuber and game store owner cakehoarder reported that 39 stores each received six sealed copies, totaling 234 units suddenly in the wild. The return address pointed to another game store, which was equally perplexed. Theories abound: someone may have found excess stock in a warehouse or storage unit, or perhaps the developer or someone involved decided to offload hidden copies. In 2019, VG247 reported that Limited Rare Games would close due to Poop Slinger's failure, with creditors taking unsold copies as repayment. What the creditors did with them remains unknown—they may have been auctioned or simply stored.
Adding to the mystery, Limited Rare Games has resurfaced. Its social media and website are active, and it posted a bizarre video featuring content creator Hard Rock Nick discussing price fluctuations of an unspecified item—possibly Poop Slinger or crypto. Hard Rock Nick passed away in 2024, so the video wasn't made in response to the game's reappearance. The situation raises more questions than answers: Who sent the copies? What's the endgame? Whether this story develops further or remains an unsolved mystery, Poop Slinger is still available digitally on PSN for $4.99.
