Warhorse Studios has officially announced its upcoming projects: a Lord of the Rings role-playing game and a new entry in the Kingdom Come series. The Embracer-owned developer confirmed rumors of a Lord of the Rings RPG via social media, describing it as an "open world Middle-earth RPG." This suggests the game may not be set during the Lord of the Rings era, but likely follows the successful formula of the studio's Kingdom Come: Deliverance titles. Warhorse is a natural fit for a Tolkien game, given that Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a story-driven open world RPG set in medieval Bohemia. While those games pride themselves on historical accuracy, this Middle-earth RPG could blend that realism with fantasy elements. Additionally, Warhorse confirmed a "new Kingdom Come adventure" is in development, likely Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3, though a spin-off is possible. The studio said, "We’re excited to tell you more when the time is right." This news coincides with Embracer's plan to spin off Fellowship Entertainment, a unit focused on major franchises like Saints Row, Legacy of Kain, Deus Ex, and others. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 launched last year to critical acclaim, earning a 9/10 from IGN, which praised its melee combat and story. Despite success, Warhorse faced backlash for using generative AI. Former director Daniel Vávra stepped down in February to work on a Kingdom Come: Deliverance movie.
