Helldivers 2 is finally getting a Warhammer 40,000 Legendary Warbond later this year, making one of the most requested crossovers a reality. Since the game's explosive launch, fans of Warhammer 40,000 have been clamoring for a collaboration, and it's easy to see why. Helldivers 2 is a perfect fit for, say, a squad of four Astra Militarum Guardsmen pushing back against the Automatons (Necrons) and Terminids (Tyranids). After all, both games revolve around cannon fodder doing the dirty work of a fascist regime, right?
In a video announcement, Helldivers 2 game director Mikael Eriksson said the two worlds “fit perfectly together” and that Arrowhead is “full of die hard Warhammer fans.” While details about the Warbond are still under wraps, the team promises more information later this year.
Warhammer 40,000 has been a frequent topic in interviews with Arrowhead. In April last year, I asked production director Alex Bolle about a potential collaboration, and he said discussions were underway. “Obviously Warhammer 40,000 is something that a lot of guys internally love to death,” he said. “So the devs are discussing, the devs are proposing stuff, and the hype is building. So these are discussions internally that we are having. Warhammer 40,000, I can't really tell you. Maybe. Who knows? We'll see!”
In 2024, Arrowhead's Johan Pilestedt also published an extended list of IPs he'd “really would love to do a take on,” with Warhammer 40,000 right up there alongside Aliens, Starship Troopers, and Terminator.
