As Hype for GTA 6 Trailer 3 Peaks, Rockstar Tweets About Red Dead Online—Internet Reacts Predictably

Fans hoping Rockstar would drop Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer 3 today were dismayed by a new social media post promoting a Red Dead Online event instead. A large chunk of the internet believed today was the day Rockstar would finally show more of GTA 6, for reasons we'll get into shortly. So when Rockstar posted about something else... well, you can imagine the responses.

Rockstar has yet to announce when it will reveal more of GTA 6, still slated for a November 19, 2026 launch after multiple high-profile delays. But signals from parent company Take-Two Interactive suggest this is the final launch date, as CEO Straus Zelnick expects GTA 6 marketing to ramp up this summer.

Why today for GTA 6 Trailer 3? Pattern-spotting fans note that GTA 6 Trailer 2 dropped last year on May 6, 2025—nine days before Take-Two's financial earnings release. Today, May 12, is also nine days before Take-Two's next earnings report. That's about as solid as the theory gets.

Still, that hasn't stopped the internet from flooding Rockstar's tweet with messages and memes. In under half an hour, the post racked up 5,800 comments.

Excitement for more GTA 6 is at fever pitch, as fans reported receiving marketing emails from Sony about upgrading to PS5 to play GTA 6 over the weekend. The emails, sent to PS4 owners with the game on their wishlists, fueled rumors of an impending announcement. This followed Rockstar's recent announcement of an "exciting" new GTA Online update this summer, sparking speculation it could be the service's last before GTA 6 launches.

Last week, a report claimed GTA 6 will likely be the most expensive game ever made, with Take-Two estimated to have spent $1 billion to $1.5 billion so far, as debate swirls over its final price.
