Marathon developer Bungie has released a cinematic teaser for the game's second season, launching next month. The trailer, which evokes a horror vibe with its tense atmosphere and unsettling score, shows night falling on Tau Ceti IV. While the teaser is cinematic and not actual gameplay (content subject to change), it suggests Season 2 will ramp up difficulty, reminiscent of Destiny's Nightfall mode, offering a tougher challenge for Runners.
Details on new enemies and story remain scarce, but the video description hints: "Players will head into the night as Nightfall emerges on Dire Marsh, offering a tense and dark experience against other Runners and new creatures native to Tau Ceti 4. Fight on the new Night Marsh map with new content such as the new Runner shell Sentinel, the Cradle, new weapons, progression improvements, and more."
Season 2 of Marathon launches June 2 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The new season follows a wave of changes to the extraction shooter, including doubling inventory slots for Depleted Patch Kits and Depleted Shield Charges to ease the learning curve. A week prior, Bungie introduced the CyberAcme Runner Reinforcement Initiative (C.A.R.R.I.), rewarding solo and coordinated crews for completing contracts and exfiling together.
Last week, Bungie announced the end of content updates for Destiny 2 after nearly nine years, with the final update on June 9, 2026 (the game remains playable). The studio is clearly focused on expanding Marathon's player base, a move backed by parent company Sony.
