CD Projekt Announces Surprise New Update for Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt has revealed an unexpected update for Cyberpunk 2077, set to release this week. The Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5) will launch on Thursday, October 22, and although CD Projekt kept details under wraps, it's clearly themed around Season 2 of the Netflix animated series Edgerunners, which premieres today.

So what exactly does the update include? CD Projekt confirmed on social media that Cyberpunk 2077 will receive "new items and features, including content inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2!" The developer added, "Update 2.5 will be dropping on October 22, 2026, marking yet another opportunity to dive back into Night City or experience it for the very first time."

What do these new "features" entail? Fans are hoping for more than just minor Edgerunners cosmetics. They're anticipating substantial DLC with new content—perhaps even a new official quest from CD Projekt. Paweł Sasko, associate game director on the in-development Cyberpunk 2, teased, "So f***ing hyped about what we cooked for you." That might be a reason for fans to get their hopes up.

More details about the Edgerunners 2 Update will be revealed on October 21, 2026, during a special episode of REDstreams, CD Projekt said. Patch notes are scheduled for publication on the same day.

Cyberpunk 2077 fans have been requesting meaningful DLC for some time now. Some even hold out hope for an expansion for the nearly six-year-old game, especially given the announcement of the Songs of the Past expansion for the 11-year-old The Witcher 3. In May, CD Projekt insisted it had "no plans" for further Cyberpunk 2077 DLCs or expansions, disappointing fans. That comment suggested fans would have to wait for Cyberpunk 2 for more from CD Projekt's beloved dystopian universe. And the wait looks like it's going to be significant; Cyberpunk 2 is further behind The Witcher 4, and CD Projekt co-CEO Michał Nowakowski has suggested Cyberpunk 2 won't be out until at least 2030.

However, this news of a 2.5 update for Cyberpunk 2077 somewhat contradicts CD Projekt's statement in May and has already prompted fans to either dust off their downloads or reinstall the game in anticipation of what's to come.

In July, CD Projekt confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 had sold an incredible 40 million copies since its December 2020 launch, up 5 million from November 2025. It has received one expansion so far, 2023's Phantom Liberty starring Idris Elba.
