Ahead of any formal announcement from Bethesda and Microsoft, the well-known video game leaker billbil-kun has disclosed the release date and pricing details for Starfield on PlayStation 5. In a post on Deadlabs, billbil-kun stated that Starfield will launch on PS5 on April 7, confirming that a physical edition will be available.

Given billbil-kun's track record of accurately leaking PlayStation Plus games, this information appears credible. If true, this release marks Bethesda's sci-fi adventure arriving on PlayStation platforms approximately two-and-a-half years after its initial debut on PC and Xbox Series X and S in September 2023.

According to the leak, Starfield will be available in Standard and Premium editions for PS5, though the Premium edition won't include early access privileges. Pricing is set at €49.99 / £44.99 for the Standard Edition and €69.99 / £59.99 for the Premium Edition, with pre-orders expected to begin on March 18. No official announcement date has been revealed yet.

Interestingly, these PS5 prices are lower than what Starfield originally cost on PC and Xbox Series X and S in 2023. Currently, the Standard Edition sells for £59.99 on Steam, while the Premium Edition is priced at £85.99, suggesting a potential price adjustment across all platforms might be imminent.

Last month, Bethesda director Todd Howard clarified that Starfield isn't receiving a massive 2.0-style overhaul. Speaking to Kinda Funny, Howard explained, "We've been developing plenty of Starfield content and plan to discuss it soon. We're entering a phase where we can properly showcase what's coming to the game. We've been working on some exciting updates that we believe fans will appreciate—these are changes that enhance the overall experience, particularly in how we utilize outer space elements."

Howard tempered expectations by noting, "If Starfield didn't initially resonate with you, or you found certain aspects dull, these updates likely won't fundamentally alter that perception." While he remained vague about specific timelines, he hinted that more information would arrive "soonish."

Starfield launched in September 2023 as Bethesda's first new intellectual property in 25 years. However, it didn't achieve the same critical acclaim as the studio's previous Fallout and The Elder Scrolls titles. The Shattered Space expansion, released in September 2024, currently holds a 'mostly negative' user review rating on Steam.

Despite reaching 15 million players, speculation has persisted about whether Bethesda might shift focus away from Starfield to concentrate on other franchises. In June 2024, Bethesda reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the game, confirming at least one additional story expansion would follow Shattered Space. Todd Howard mentioned in an interview with MrMattyPlays that the studio aimed to release annual story expansions "for hopefully a very long time," though this hasn't materialized yet. Reports from August last year indicated that Starfield's second expansion and the highly anticipated PS5 port were delayed until 2026, partly due to Shattered Space's disappointing reception.

Bethesda has acknowledged plans to enhance Starfield's space gameplay, aiming to "make the travels there more rewarding." Datamined code fragments suggest the developer is working on a more streamlined space travel system. Based on this data, players might be able to travel between planets within the same system, but inter-system travel or direct flights from planetary surfaces to orbit—similar to No Man's Sky—won't be possible.

In a recent career retrospective video, veteran Bethesda developer Tim Lamb confirmed ongoing work on Starfield's space gameplay and mentioned that a new DLC story is still in development. Lamb shared, "I'm excited for players to see what the teams have been creating. We have some fantastic content on the way, including free updates with requested features and a fresh DLC narrative. Part of our team has been dedicated to refining space gameplay to make exploration more satisfying. We're also introducing new game systems and other small surprises. Additionally, our verified creators are preparing some intriguing projects. We're grateful for the community's support and enthusiasm and can't wait to share these updates."

Last month, Bethesda hinted at new Starfield content through a hidden message in a social media video celebrating the game's two-year anniversary, sparking excitement among fans.
