During Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest 2026, it was announced that the acclaimed MMORPG will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in August, with a separate subscription model. Director Naoki Yoshida later confirmed in a roundtable interview that the Switch 2 version will support mouse controls and target 30 frames per second. When asked about Joy-Con mouse functionality and high-level raid testing, Yoshida stated, 'Yes, it is supported and possible. However, I have not tried Savage raids with the built-in mouse yet.' He noted that the QA team is testing it, but added, 'You can use a controller, and I prefer that for the Switch 2 version. For Savage raids, players might want to dock the system and use a mouse and keyboard.' Yoshida emphasized the flexibility of the hybrid console: 'In handheld mode, you can do casual activities like gathering or crafting. This aligns with the upcoming Evercold expansion and Patch 8.0, which shift the game to a weekly content cycle, giving players more freedom to choose their playstyle.' Regarding performance, Yoshida acknowledged concerns about specs: 'We are working hard on optimization. We target 30fps, and in towns you may see lower frame rates due to many players, but we can maintain a stable 30fps.' He assured, 'Performance is not something to worry about.' The Switch 2 version requires a separate FFXIV subscription, though existing subscribers get 50% off. The free trial now includes Shadowbringers.
