Resident Evil Requiem Fans Miss the Merchant from RE4 So Much That a Modder Added Him In

Resident Evil Requiem players were disappointed to see the Merchant absent from Leon's latest adventure, but a new mod brings back Capcom's beloved, gravelly-voiced vendor for those who miss him.

Resident Evil 4 is one of the most celebrated games of all time, and part of its charm comes from unforgettable characters like the Merchant. Despite being a fan-favorite in the survival horror series, the purple-robed salesman was replaced by a less quotable supply box in the ninth mainline Resident Evil game—until now.

Thanks to Nexus Mods user fanteeek, Resident Evil Requiem players can swap the box with the Merchant during Leon's sections of the story. A clip of the mod in action went viral on social media over the weekend, showing that PC players can once again be greeted with a warm "Welcome!"

The Merchant mod for Resident Evil Requiem works as you'd expect. Leon can still access the same inventory of guns and upgrades available in the base game, but now with the Merchant by his side.

Currently, the Merchant's voice lines are limited to the one welcome clip, but fanteeek hopes to add more dialogue and animations in the future. This version of the character appears to be taken from the Resident Evil 4 remake. Until Capcom shows interest in bringing him back for a new game, this Resident Evil Requiem mod might be your best bet.

Capcom released the newest Resident Evil game for PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 27, 2026. Players are eagerly awaiting news on post-launch content. We know at least one story expansion is on the way, with a new mini-game also in development and expected soon.
