Fortnite players can now step into the world of Westeros as Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, and the Night King arrive in the battle royale tonight. This marks the first-ever crossover between George R.R. Martin's epic fantasy universe and Epic Games' Fortnite, launching at the start of Chapter 7 Season 2: Showdown.
Showdown debuted yesterday, introducing new locations and a battle pass featuring Bugs Bunny, along with fresh versions of fan-favorites like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's The Foundation and the Ice King. The timing of the Game of Thrones addition aligns perfectly with the season's new wintry area, ruled by an icy monarch, and the inherent rivalries among the three iconic characters. (No bonus points for pickaxing Daenerys as Jon, though!)
All three skins will be available in Fortnite's Shop tonight, with V-Bucks prices yet to be announced. Players can also grab a fearsome Drogon glider—complete with rideable functionality—and emotes that let characters sit on the Iron Throne or summon fiery baby dragons. Daenerys sports her blue dress from Season 4, with an alternate style for her darker cloaked look from the final season, and her back bling is a chest of dragon eggs. Jon Snow comes with optional fur-trimmed cape and a cool effect that gradually dusts him with snow, plus a House Stark shield back bling. The Night King is, well, the Night King, and each character wields themed pickaxe weapons, like Jon's Longclaw.
Early reactions to Showdown have been positive, despite recent fan uproar over Epic's changes to V-Bucks, which now cost more and are distributed less generously in battle passes, affecting Fortnite Crew subscribers too. Some players have also voiced concerns about the frequent crossovers in Fortnite, a trend this Game of Thrones addition continues.
Nevertheless, Game of Thrones remains a massively popular franchise, and its inclusion feels inevitable after Fortnite's gradual absorption of nearly all the IPs from Warner Bros.' crossover game Multiversus. With last year's Scooby Doo characters and this season's Bugs Bunny, most of Multiversus' roster is now in Fortnite, though notable absences like The Matrix skins and Tom and Jerry persist. Given the arrival of the Looney Tunes crew, their inclusion seems only a matter of time.
