Sony has announced that Helldivers 2 will unveil its highly anticipated Warhammer 40,000 crossover on July 30. In the meantime, we have confirmation of one weapon included in the Legendary Warbond: a Bolt Pistol, straight from the Warhammer 40K arsenal. Bolt Pistols are used by various factions in Games Workshop's grimdark universe, but it's especially fitting for an Astra Militarum (formerly Imperial Guard) soldier.
Even before the crossover was announced, fans noted how perfectly Warhammer 40K fits Helldivers 2, where squads of four soldiers act as cannon fodder in an endless galactic war against alien monsters. The Terminids are easily compared to Tyranids, and the Automatons aren't far from Necrons.
Arrowhead has often been asked about Warhammer 40K in interviews. In April last year, production director Alex Bolle said, "Obviously Warhammer 40,000 is something a lot of guys internally love to death. So the devs are discussing, the devs are proposing stuff, and the hype is building." In 2024, Arrowhead's Johan Pilestedt listed Warhammer 40K among IPs he'd "really would love to do a take on," alongside Aliens, Starship Troopers, and Terminator.
As for what else the Warbond might include, a Chainsword seems likely, as does the Astra Militarum's iconic Lasgun. A Boltgun, however, might be too much for Helldivers 2, as it's typically used by Space Marines, though human-usable versions exist. For armor, Cadian-style Kasrkin and Scion sets for Super Earth soldiers would be a welcome addition. Cadia may be gone, but its people and wargear live on.
We'll find out on July 30.
