Bethesda has unveiled a significant set of updates and expansions for Starfield, marking what many fans consider the game's 'version 2.0' milestone. The announcement includes both paid and free content, alongside a major platform release.

First, the studio introduced Terran Armada, a new story DLC that adds a fresh questline, characters, locations, enemies, and rewards. Priced at $10, it will be complimentary for owners of Starfield's Premium Edition.

In addition, all players will receive Free Lanes, a substantial free update featuring the highly anticipated spaceflight enhancement. This allows seamless travel between planets within the same star system, among other improvements.

All these updates are scheduled to launch on April 7, coinciding with Starfield's long-awaited debut on PlayStation 5. Concurrently, the game's price will drop to $49.99 across all platforms, down from its current $69.99 on Xbox.

The Free Lanes update also brings an expanded array of encounters, points of interest, and dungeons, plus a new resource called X-Tech for upgrading weapons and ship modules. Players can look forward to a Moon Jumper land vehicle, a Milliewhale pet, a new crew member, and the ability to carry limited items into New Game+.

For those eager to dive back in today, five new Trackers Alliance adventures are now available, expanding the bounty hunter pack (priced at 700 Creations Credits) with additional targets.

IGN has already previewed these Starfield additions, questioning whether they're sufficient to revitalize Bethesda's space RPG. Their full analysis is available for reading. In a separate interview, Bethesda's Todd Howard discussed the game's past, present, and future, hinting at ongoing support and joking that fans should pretend The Elder Scrolls 6 wasn't announced too early.
