GTA 6 is paying homage to a classic GTA 4 meme by naming one of its key mechanics after it. Back in 2008, a Justin.tv channel (now Twitch) called FourPlayerPodcast made GTA history when host Brad Simons rode a moped through GTA 4's Liberty City. He soon encountered another moped rider and comically dubbed them "scooter brothers." The clip has since racked up over 7.5 million views on YouTube, and now it's being woven into GTA 6.
According to a new preview from Edge magazine, players will be able to summon their vehicle using an app called Scooter Brothers. An NPC will deliver your car and then hop on a scooter (presumably driven by another "brother") and ride off. Whether these scooter brothers will have their own quirky lines as a nod to their origins remains to be seen.
In GTA 5, switching to Trevor could sometimes trigger a recreation of the meme with a terrified NPC. It was a fantastic Easter egg, and Rockstar is keeping the tradition alive—this time with a more practical purpose.
GTA Online has had a vehicle summoning mechanic since launch, and Red Dead Redemption lets you call your horse if it's nearby. However, this marks the first time players can do something similar without cheats in GTA's single-player mode. It's arguably more essential than ever, as the player's weapons and other important gear are stored in the trunk of their vehicle. This also means your cars likely won't be as disposable as they were in previous games.
All this news arrives just three weeks before GTA 6's launch and two weeks before pre-loading begins. Rockstar's marketing efforts are ramping up worldwide. Rumors also suggest a PC version is on the horizon, with a reported release window of early 2027. Either way, it's an exciting time to be a GTA fan.
