The Dead by Daylight movie has found its director: Icelandic filmmaker Thordur Palsson, known for The Damned and The Valhalla Murders. The screenplay is penned by Alexandre Aja (Never Let Go, Crawl, Piranha 3D) and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring series, Aquaman films).
The announcement was made during Dead by Daylight's 10th anniversary broadcast, with Blumhouse founder Jason Blum and producer Stephen Mulrooney joining Palsson on stage.
"For me, the main thing is capturing the feeling of playing Dead by Daylight," Palsson said. "I want to capture the dread, the tension, the fear of what's waiting for you in The Fog."
"I love horror that stays with you after it's over, and that's the cinematic experience we want to bring to the big screen."
Iconic locations like The MacMillan Estate and Greenville will appear in the film, which is expected to start production in 2027.
The adaptation was first announced in March 2023, but at that time it was still in early development, with the search for a writer and director just beginning.
Developed by Behaviour Interactive, Dead by Daylight is a 4v1 asymmetric multiplayer horror game known for its extensive crossovers with horror franchises like Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Child's Play, Hellraiser, Scream, The Evil Dead, Alien, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and even Nicolas Cage.
Originally released on PC in 2016, Dead by Daylight later expanded to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
