After multiple postponements, Bungie's highly anticipated title, Marathon, is finally on the horizon. The game is scheduled to launch on March 5 for PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, following a successful "Server Slam" beta test conducted over the weekend. This marks Bungie's first new release since Destiny 2 debuted in 2018.
Marathon is a player-versus-player extraction shooter set on the enigmatic planet Tau Ceti IV. Players take on the roles of Runners, cybernetic mercenaries engineered to withstand the planet's extreme conditions, as they explore the remnants of a lost colony that once thrived on its surface.
In an ongoing review, we noted: "While the Server Slam beta alone doesn't provide a complete overview, reaching character rank 30 offered a promising look at the early progression system, hinting at a challenging journey toward the endgame. I plan to thoroughly explore all facets of Marathon upon its full release and will deliver a final review after experiencing the later stages—some of which are slated for updates in the coming weeks. For now, I'm highly optimistic that this game could become my next major obsession."
Bungie recently outlined what players can expect at launch, including seasonal wipes that will reset all gear every few months, creating a "clean slate for the entire community" with each new session. However, players will retain their achievements, cosmetics, titles, and other rewards, along with their Codex progression.
