Forza Horizon 6 is set to launch on May 19, still a few months away, but Playground Games has already revealed its PC system requirements, which are surprisingly modest. Similar to Crimson Desert's PC version earlier this month, the developer has provided a detailed chart outlining various performance levels. While the high-end 4K ray tracing preset demands robust hardware, the lower-end configurations are quite reasonable—requiring only an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti or a Radeon RX 6500 XT to run the game on low settings.
Playground Games has also confirmed support for the Steam Deck and the ROG Xbox Ally, though the chart doesn't specify the graphics preset, resolution, or frame rate these handhelds will achieve. Based on intuition, they'll likely run at low settings targeting 30 fps, but I'll personally test this once the game releases in May.
Given that Forza Horizon 5 performed excellently on most gaming PCs, Forza Horizon 6, built on an updated version of the same ForzaTech engine, is expected to follow suit. Over the five years since Forza Horizon 5's launch, new graphics technologies have emerged, and this new game will support many of them, including DLSS 4 multi-frame generation and FSR Redstone.
While Playground Games mentioned that both the Steam Deck and Xbox Ally can run Forza Horizon 6, it didn't detail the performance quality. However, the minimum specs offer a good indication. At the low end, the game requires a Ryzen 5 1600, a processor considered outdated by today's standards. Although it's a desktop CPU with higher power than the Z2 in the Xbox Ally, their performance is likely comparable.
The real difference lies in graphics performance. To run the game at 1080p with low settings, it calls for a GTX 1650, Radeon RX 6500 XT, or Intel Arc A380. These graphics cards aren't particularly powerful by current or even historical standards, but they still outperform the Steam Deck's capabilities.
If these cards can achieve 60 fps, the Steam Deck might manage 30-40 fps at 800p with low settings. While not ideal for a fast-paced racing game, it remains playable, especially for quick races away from a primary setup. I'll be testing the game across multiple graphics cards and handhelds upon its May release, so we won't have to wait long to see its actual performance.
