Square Enix has confirmed that the English voice actor for Sephiroth has been recast for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed in an interview with YouTuber and Final Fantasy 7 enthusiast Maximilian Dood that the One-Winged Angel will sound different in the upcoming remake continuation. The interview followed the Summer Game Fest 2026 reveal trailer, which showcased gameplay and a Sephiroth with a lower, more gravelly voice. Fans immediately noticed the change from Tyler Hoechlin's performance in Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth. Hamaguchi explained that Hoechlin was unavailable during development, leading to the recast. For Revelation, Tarvis Willingham will voice Sephiroth. Willingham has an extensive resume in games, movies, and TV, including roles as Knuckles in Sonic Boom, Roy Mustang in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and Thor in Marvel projects. He also has prior experience with the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series. While Willingham brings experience, some fans may be disappointed by Hoechlin's departure, especially since he voiced Sephiroth in Remake, Rebirth, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy Reunion, and Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier. It's too early to gauge fan reaction to the voice change. Although the Summer Game Fest 2026 trailer offered a long look at Revelation, Square Enix has not revealed a release date beyond a spring 2027 launch on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. More of Willingham's performance will be heard in the coming months.
