Too Many Guests? Tokyo Revengers x City of the Wolves Collab Ignites Fighter Community Debate

The fighting game community is currently embroiled in a heated discussion about the growing number of guest characters in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.

On September 9, SNK announced two more guest fighters for CotW: Manjiro "Mikey" Sano and Ken "Draken" Ryuguji from Tokyo Revengers. These popular shonen anime protagonists join a roster that already includes Street Fighter's Chun-Li and Ken, pro footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, music artist Salvatore Ganacci, and Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star.

That's a hefty number of guest characters for a game that's barely a year old. While Ken and Chun-Li make sense given the long history of Capcom-SNK crossovers, five guests from completely unrelated franchises feels excessive to some players (myself included).

A trend is sweeping through major fighting games lately, with non-fighting game characters being added to titles like Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, and, of course, City of the Wolves. For instance, Final Fantasy 7's Tifa Lockhart is slated for SF6 next year, and Baki's Yujiro Hanma is expected to hit Tekken 8 in 2027.

While these one-off additions aren't causing much fuss in the FGC (Tekken is known for its oddball guests), the sheer volume in CotW is raising eyebrows—especially since they don't hail from other fighting games.

"Lmfaoo, adding anything bruh. Kenshiro was dope, but what the f**k is this," one player wrote on X.

"Funniest fighting game roster of all time bro," another commented.

"Love these two, but how did they get in over Baki, or hell, even Tokita Ohma?" a third asked, referencing Kengan Ashura, which recently had a collab with SF6.

It's worth noting that fighting games are no strangers to out-of-left-field guests. Mortal Kombat is a prime example, having featured RoboCop, Omni-Man, Homelander, the Terminator, and the Xenomorph. However, those additions often fit MK's over-the-top vibe. CotW's guests, on the other hand, seem all over the place—and Ronaldo in South Town? That's a first for a real-life athlete in a mainline fighting game.

Regardless, SNK clearly sees value in these crossover characters, and I'm genuinely curious where they'll take the franchise next. The sheer number of fighters they're adding each season is impressive, even if not every pick gets fans hyped. (And hey, can we get more female characters on the roster?)
