IO Interactive has announced a delay for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of its upcoming James Bond title, 007 First Light. In a social media statement released today, the developer reaffirmed the previously adjusted launch date for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, which is set for May 27—a slot once occupied by GTA 6. However, the Switch 2 edition is now slated for "later this summer."
Initially, 007 First Light was intended to launch simultaneously across all platforms on March 27. After a delay in December affected all versions, IO Interactive had still aimed for a unified release. The reason behind the Switch 2 version arriving months after other platforms remains unclear, as today's announcement carefully avoids using the term "delay" and instead states: "We're excited to see players discovering James Bond's reimagined origin story, and we are looking forward to bringing you the best game experience possible across all platforms."
This raises questions: Is the Switch 2 port facing specific challenges? Nintendo enthusiasts are also awaiting updates on Borderlands 4's Switch 2 adaptation, and Starfield has yet to appear on the platform despite its availability on PS5. Alternatively, could all versions simply require more development time than anticipated in December? With the Switch 2 version temporarily on hold, resources might be redirected to platforms with larger user bases. Without an official explanation from IO, speculation continues.
007 First Light is the new Bond adventure from Hitman creator IO Interactive, featuring a fresh origin story for the MI6 agent. Starring 30-year-old Dexter: Original Sin actor Patrick Gibson as the youngest on-screen 007 to date, the game boasts a stellar cast including Eternals' Gemma Chan, The Walking Dead's Lennie James, and The Hunger Games' Lenny Kravitz as allies and adversaries.
