Bungie has been gradually unveiling details about the significant patch 1.0.6 for Marathon, which launched today, April 14. As a dedicated player of Bungie's sci-fi extraction shooter, I was particularly excited about the overhaul to Recon, my primary Shell since the pre-launch server test. This update goes beyond simple fixes, bringing substantial gameplay adjustments: for instance, you can now only attach one Claymore to Med-Drones, the popular Bully SMG has been nerfed, and a variety of new gear has been added to the mix. But that's just the beginning—there are also changes designed to fundamentally shift how players interact with one another.
In the game's lore, this initiative is known as C.A.R.R.I. (CyberAcme Runner Reinforcement Initiative), linking the CyberAcme faction directly to the game's systems. Players learn about it through ONI, the AI character that guides the narrative. Now, both solo Runners and squads earn a new material called CyberAcme Commendations for completing contracts and extracting together, with bonus commendations awarded for extracting alongside players outside your squad. These commendations can be exchanged for Salvage Crates (offering random salvage items) or Reputation Packs (to increase faction levels), though C.A.R.R.I. items are a one-time purchase. Additionally, the introduction of Mercy Kits allows players to revive downed teammates, adding an intriguing strategic layer to high-level play.
Beyond the C.A.R.R.I. system, patch 1.0.6 includes several other notable changes. Players should pay attention to adjustments in weapon functionality, especially for gear they've relied on since the game's launch. Key weapon modifications in this update are worth noting for optimizing your gameplay.
