Excitement is building among Resident Evil Requiem enthusiasts as rumors suggest an upcoming content update may introduce a fresh take on the series' beloved Mercenaries mode. This speculation gained significant traction after a purported data leak revealed previously undiscovered music tracks within the game's files.

The buzz started when X/Twitter user @MasyaSYRKOV claimed to have unearthed ten new audio tracks while exploring Resident Evil Requiem's data. Although these tracks don't follow any obvious naming pattern, certain musical elements have players convinced they're hearing early signs of a Mercenaries mode for the ninth main installment in Capcom's survival horror franchise.

While Resident Evil Requiem already delivers plenty of tense moments, the leaked tracks—particularly numbers 7 and 9—feature the high-energy beats typically associated with Mercenaries gameplay. Even more telling are tracks 3 and 4, which include a persistent ticking sound that strongly hints at the time-based challenges the mode is famous for.

For those unfamiliar, Mercenaries mode represents a departure from traditional Resident Evil storytelling. Instead of narrative-driven horror, it throws players into action-packed arenas for arcade-style combat with time limits, special abilities, and diverse playable characters. The recent Resident Evil 4 remake's version, for instance, allowed players to control not only heroes like Leon S. Kennedy and Ada Wong but also villains such as Jack Krauser and Albert Wesker.

Though there's no guarantee these leaked tracks will officially appear in Resident Evil Requiem, fans have additional reasons to anticipate Mercenaries or a similar mode arriving soon. Back in March, Capcom confirmed several post-launch additions were in development, with plans to roll them out over the coming months.

One of these promised additions is a "mini-game" scheduled for May release. Players had already speculated this might be Mercenaries mode, and today's leak has only strengthened those suspicions. However, it's important to remember that Capcom has shared few concrete details about Resident Evil Requiem's future content, so official announcements should be awaited before drawing firm conclusions.

The absence of official confirmation hasn't stopped the community from theorizing about which characters might appear in a potential Mercenaries mode. Leon S. Kennedy seems like an obvious choice, while many hope to play as Grace Ashcroft or the formidable Victor Gideon. There's also interest in seeing the mysterious Zeno return, which could provide new insights into the character's capabilities.

Resident Evil Requiem first launched on February 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Our review awarded it a 9/10, praising how it "skillfully blends two distinct styles of survival horror into one compelling new experience."
