Netflix has unveiled initial character details and a fall 2026 release window for its anime sequel series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. The streaming giant, along with CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger, took to X/Twitter to share information about the new cast joining Season 2 of the Cyberpunk 2077 anime spin-off. The announcement also narrowed down the premiere timeline to fall 2026, giving fans a clearer picture of when to expect the series, though a specific release date has yet to be announced.
The reveal came with a sneak peek at four new characters: Weak Kingsley, D, Roman Carax, and Talia Yang. These new faces grace the cover of the first Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 poster, which was shared alongside the news. According to details published by Netflix across social media and in collaboration with various content creators, Weak Kingsley is described as a veteran Edgerunner who "now lives in the shadow of his former glory." D is a Snack Nation Netrunner seeking revenge as he "hunts the killer who wiped out his clan." Roman Carax is the youngest of the group, a "cinephile in search of real stories in a city that abandoned cinema for braindances." Finally, Talia Yang has ties to both corporations and the Maelstrom gang, and her "heart belongs to chrome and violence."
Directed by Kai Ikarashi with character designs by Kanno Ichigo, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 also brings back original writers Bartosz Sztybor and Masahiko Otsuka for the sequel. The series was officially announced in July 2024 with a brief teaser trailer, which appears to feature some of the characters shown in the new poster. A new teaser trailer is set to be revealed tomorrow, though a firm release date is still some time away.
An official description for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 reads: "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 presents a new standalone 10-episode story from the world of Cyberpunk 2077— a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge. In a city that thrives in the spotlight of violence, one question remains: when the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?"
Little is known about the plot, but given the events of Season 1, fans are already bracing for the worst for this new group of misfits. For more on the world of Cyberpunk 2077, you can read about how the first season nearly included endings that were even darker than the one we got.
