An official Cyberpunk Trading Card Game has achieved a staggering $7.5 million on Kickstarter, surpassing its $100,000 target in a mere five minutes and setting a new record as the most-funded trading card game in the platform's history.
Created by WeirdCo in collaboration with CD Projekt Red, this TCG marks the first time the Cyberpunk franchise enters the physical trading card arena. The initial set, titled Welcome to Night City, is scheduled for release later this year and features beloved characters such as V, Jackie Welles, Johnny Silverhand, and Judy Álvarez. Gamers can assemble competitive decks or personal collections with these icons, while Set 2 will broaden the experience by fully integrating characters from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
Within minutes of launch, the Kickstarter campaign hit its funding goal. The team celebrated, saying, 'Hey chooms, we did it. Thanks to your incredible support, Cyberpunk TCG has been funded in just 5 minutes! Witnessing this rapid success has been surreal. At WeirdCo, we've dedicated extensive time to this project, from card design and gameplay development to collaborating with talented artists and preparing for this campaign.'
The momentum didn't slow down. In under three hours, contributions soared past $5 million, leading WeirdCo to exclaim, 'You gonks are crazy. We've already exceeded our $3 million stretch goal! You're racing through these targets faster than we can announce them — THANK YOU!'
In response, WeirdCo has introduced additional stretch goals. These include a Legend Pack Upgrade featuring Johnny Silverhand at $8.5 million, card sleeves at $9 million, and another Legend Pack Upgrade with Saburo Arasaka at $9.5 million. If the campaign reaches the $10 million mark, all backers from Common Cyberdecks to Night City Legend tiers will receive an exclusive Kickstarter Nova Rare Rebecca: Having a Moment card, plus an extra Legend Pack in the Beta Box.
By supporting the Kickstarter, players gain access to exclusive items and card arts available only as Beta products, allowing them to join the Cyberpunk TCG community from the start and influence its future through feedback and participation.
The TCG draws inspiration from CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077, a non-linear sci-fi RPG rooted in Mike Pondsmith's renowned pen-and-paper Cyberpunk system. Notably, CD Projekt has confirmed no plans for further DLC or expansions for Cyberpunk 2077, even as reports suggest a secret DLC for The Witcher 3 may be unveiled soon.
