GTA 6 Fans Discover Tommy Vercetti Easter Egg Over a Year After Trailer 2 Launch

Grand Theft Auto 6 fans have uncovered a subtle nod to Vice City protagonist Tommy Vercetti in the game's second trailer. The trailer features a quick montage of co-protagonist Jason Duvall's daily life, including a moment where he enters a store, slaps the cashier, and steals cash from the register. Twitter user GameVerse noticed something at the 33-second mark: just as the cashier turns his head, a painting of a lizard wearing a blue floral shirt—identical to Tommy Vercetti's outfit from GTA: Vice City—is visible on the wall.

It's surprising that this detail went unnoticed for a year, given the trailer's hundreds of millions of views and intense fan analysis. However, the lizard is only visible for half a second and is partially obscured until the slap, making it easy to miss. Given that GTA 6 shares a setting with Vice City, it's likely there are more references to the classic game.

Don't expect Tommy to appear in person, though. Actor Ray Liotta passed away in 2022, and Rockstar has historically kept PS2-era characters separate from later titles. In 2011, Rockstar explained its universe logic: "The 'universes' are the worlds interpreted at different definitions, 2D, 3D and high definition, so we felt brands and radio/background characters would exist in both, but three-dimensional characters would not." This means no GTA 3 characters should appear in the GTA 4 universe.

GTA 6 will feature Phil Cassidy, but it's likely a different version from the original Vice City, as this one has both arms—unlike the original who lost an arm in the 80s.

GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with pre-orders opening this Thursday, June 25th.
