For weeks, the gaming community has been buzzing about the technical performance of Pearl Abyss's ambitious open-world title, Crimson Desert. While we've seen it running on high-end PCs and the powerful PS5 Pro, the base PlayStation 5 version remained a mystery—until now.

A lengthy gameplay video on PlayStation Japan's YouTube channel has finally given us a look at how Crimson Desert runs on the standard PS5. The video is encoded at 1080p and 30fps on YouTube, which isn't ideal for judging graphical details, but the good news is that it appears to run relatively smoothly with no noticeable frame drops or hitches.

This reveal comes just two days before Crimson Desert's launch on March 19, offering relief to PS5 owners who were anxious about performance on their hardware. However, questions still linger about how well the game will perform on Xbox, particularly the less powerful Series S.

This follows last week's PS5 Pro gameplay showcase by Digital Foundry, where John Linneman praised it as "a stunning game," noting that performance mode "puts up a good fight" and largely maintains a 60fps target. "I was surprised by how good it was overall," he added.

Recently, full specs for Crimson Desert on PS5 and Xbox were detailed, including performance, balanced, and quality modes for all consoles except the Xbox Series S, which lacks a balanced option.

In recent weeks, the console versions of Crimson Desert faced scrutiny, with some fans online accusing Pearl Abyss of hiding PlayStation and Xbox versions before launch, fearing a repeat of Cyberpunk 2077's rocky console release. These concerns were addressed by Pearl Abyss spokesperson Will Powers, who urged fans to "let us cook," emphasizing transparency and promising reveals ahead of launch.

Now, with the base PS5 gameplay out in the open, the wait is over. What platform will you be playing on? Have your performance questions been answered before launch? Share your thoughts in the comments!
