As No Man's Sky makes its debut on iOS, the ever-expanding space sim is treating players to a eerie new update just in time for Halloween. Titled Forsaken, this latest offering from Hello Games continues the studio's trend of rolling out massive free updates, a far cry from the game's rocky launch years ago.
Last month, Hello Games released the Cosmos update to celebrate the game's tenth anniversary. Cosmos injected new excitement into space exploration, allowing players to get up close to stars, construct their own space stations, and delve into the wreckage of colossal space hulks.
According to Hello Games, Forsaken aims to reveal the "darker side of the universe." Players can scour the cosmos for haunted technology and biological horrors to sell to eccentric traders, but acquiring these items means braving the most terrifying corners of space.
Trading these items earns new seasonal rewards, including "creepy and organic" shipbuilding options—from alien cockpits to unknowable modules. There are also fresh cosmetics for your character, such as larva tank helmets and writhing, wormy multi-tools. Deliciously disturbing.
Beyond the seasonal content, the update brings UI improvements like a refined radial menu, a minimal HUD option, and a host of other quality-of-life and accessibility features. One of the standout additions lets you warp directly to any star visible from your cockpit.
The Forsaken update is available today on all platforms, including the newly released No Man's Sky for iOS. Full patch notes can be found on the No Man's Sky website.
If you're curious why Hello Games keeps supporting No Man's Sky—aside from its immense popularity—look no further than their upcoming game, Light No Fire. Light No Fire is a sword-and-sorcery RPG from the same team that, instead of simulating an endless galaxy, simulates a more densely packed, to-scale planet. An entire planet.
Many of the updates and tweaks to No Man's Sky are technical advancements Hello Games is using to develop Light No Fire, which will let you soar across the skies on dragonback. We haven't seen Light No Fire since The Game Awards 2023.
After the sketchy launch of No Man's Sky, it seems the Hello Games team plans to let the game speak for itself this time around.
