The upcoming new mode in Resident Evil Requiem, launching next month, will only be accessible after completing the main game. If you haven't finished Leon S. Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft's journey through Raccoon City yet, now's the time, according to the development team. "It's a mini-game based on the battles in the main game," director Koshi Nakanishi told Japanese site Denfaminicogamer via machine translation. "For those who have cleared the main story and still want more fun, I think you'll enjoy this and go 'Whoa!!' So sharpen your hatchet and wait." Producer Masato Kumazawa added, "This mini-game unlocks after clearing the main story. If you plan to play it, finishing the story during Golden Week would be perfect timing." Fans speculate this mode is Requiem's take on the series' classic Mercenaries mode, featuring wave-based combat in familiar areas and the ability to play as other characters. Veterans hope to see Sherry join the action or play as the villain Zeno. Beyond this, proper story DLC is planned for the future, though Nakanishi confirmed it's still a ways off. Whether it will reveal the mystery of Leon's new jewelry remains unknown. When asked about Leon's relationship status, Nakanishi said more might be revealed "someday," but added, "that 'someday' isn't now." Capcom recently announced Resident Evil Requiem has sold 7 million copies, boosting its profit forecast. If you haven't played yet, there's still time before the new mode arrives. IGN awarded the game 9/10, calling it "a successful fusion of two survival horror strains into one highly infectious new mutation."
