According to an analysis by Alinea Analytics, Ghost of Yōtei's sales are lagging behind its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, but the game is still performing strongly on PlayStation 5.
Rhys Elliott, head of marketing analysis at Alinea, shared the data on X/Twitter. While Sony has not officially confirmed these numbers, they offer a glimpse into how Sucker Punch Productions' 2025 sequel is faring.
The analysis estimates that Ghost of Yōtei has sold approximately 5.4 million units, generating $407 million in revenue so far. Physical copies account for a notable 36.8% of sales, and discounts on the PlayStation Store have been scarce. In Q3 2026 alone, around 500,000 copies were sold. Additionally, about 50,000 players have purchased the digital Complete Edition, which includes new content like the recently released Echoes of Sekigahara expansion, in the two weeks since it replaced the digital base game. Alinea estimates that roughly 6% of the existing player base returned to try the new content, indicating the game is maintaining momentum.
In comparison, Ghost of Tsushima, which launched in July 2020 during pandemic lockdowns, had generated about $418 million by the same point in its lifecycle. Elliott noted that Tsushima had sold nearly 7 million copies by then, while Yōtei sits at 5.4 million. However, with Yōtei priced at $70 versus Tsushima's $60, and Tsushima having received discounts (dropping to $45 within three months), the revenue gap is only about 3%. This translates to roughly 26% more revenue per buyer for Yōtei, aligning with PlayStation's strategy to maximize revenue per player.
While the unit sales gap is significant, Elliott pointed out that at this stage in Tsushima's life, there were about 117 million PS4s and 10 million PS5s in the market, compared to nearly 100 million PS5s today—Yōtei's only platform. He also mentioned that Yōtei's revenue is starting to flatten more than Tsushima's did, but the influx of new PS5 owners driven by GTA could help mitigate that.
Despite the crowded market, Yōtei has proven to be an evergreen seller, moving 1.8 million copies this year ($121 million in revenue) with only two minor discounts. Elliott concluded, "Anyone who says that Ghost of Yōtei is a flop is flat-out wrong."
Ghost of Yōtei launched in October 2025 exclusively on PS5. IGN awarded it an 8/10, praising its predictable yet well-executed story, gorgeous landscapes, and satisfying action. The game recently added a new armor set inspired by The Last of Us.
