Marvel Rivals Developers 'Know What They Can Know' About Avengers: Doomsday Plot

It might just be my own speculation, but I imagine only a tiny handful of individuals currently know the full story of Avengers: Doomsday. Scheduled for release on December 18 this year, the film is poised to dramatically conclude Phase Six of the MCU, bringing together nearly every surviving Marvel hero we've seen so far—and possibly even one we thought was gone? Naturally, fans are buzzing with theories about what will unfold, but the true details are locked away with those working directly on the movie...

...and, to some degree, the developers behind Marvel Rivals.

In a conversation with IGN at the Game Developers Conference, the Marvel Rivals team confirmed they have insight into parts of Avengers: Doomsday's plot. They need this knowledge to execute their "Path to Doomsday" event series effectively.

Announced earlier this month, Path to Doomsday will roll out updates throughout the year, each themed after a key Avengers film: Avengers in April, Age of Ultron in June, Infinity War in August, and Endgame in October. This buildup culminates in a major event launching alongside the film's premiere, where the developers vow to "fully ignite the battlefield with all-new in-game content."

Game development takes time, though. Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo, publishing director Yachen Bian, and creative director Guangyun "Guangguang" Chen explained in our interview that they plan content about a year ahead. Currently, they're juggling regular updates with the Path to Doomsday preparations, requiring at least some foreknowledge of Doomsday to craft a coherent event.

Of course, they're keeping the specifics under wraps.

"Top secret," Koo stated. "We collaborate on Path to Doomsday to ensure we nail the finale. Our team needs this info to get ready for what's coming."

Bian added, perhaps with a hint of mischief, "We know what we can know."

It's all very mysterious. Speculation around Doomsday continues to swirl: Halle Berry insists she won't appear as Storm, Marvel has released unconventional "narrative information" trailers, and rumors suggest Thor might survive the film and head into Secret Wars.
