Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's new extraction mode, DMZ, is grappling with server issues that are causing players to lose freshly acquired loot. Yesterday, Infinity Ward launched the mode in early access ahead of MW4's full release on Friday, giving players a taste of what's to come. While the initial reception has been positive, the experience has been marred by server crashes that wipe out any loot collected during a match.
The good news is that any loot you've already extracted to the FOB and brought back into the DMZ as part of your loadout remains safe. However, anything you picked up during a run that ended in a disconnect is gone. Infinity Ward claims to have addressed the problem and clarified what players will retain and what they'll lose.
"Players who disconnected due to this particular issue will retain the equipment they started the match with and their subsequent progression, but not the loot collected during the match," the developers stated in an update on Twitter/X.
📢 Call of Duty: #ModernWarfare4 | #DMZ Early Access We're aware of an issue causing some players to disconnect from matches. We've deployed a potential fix and are monitoring the results. Players who disconnected due to this particular issue will retain the equipment they started the match with and their subsequent progression, but not the loot collected during the match.
Some players are still reporting problems, so results may vary. Of course, ensuring that everything a player had when disconnected is preserved is tricky. If that were the case, it could theoretically be exploited by players to extract valuable loot without actually reaching an extraction zone. Still, losing something extremely rare or valuable due to technical issues would be incredibly frustrating.
Black Ops 7's Endgame mode faced similar issues when it launched last year. The PvE extraction mode encouraged players to grind for rewards, but dying or failing to extract meant losing everything. Unfortunately, that also applied to crashes during the game's first few days. This was eventually fixed, but it was a painful first impression for anyone who spent hours grinding, only to have their progress undone by something beyond their control.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's full release is set for October 23. The game's acclaimed campaign and DMZ modes are available now for owners of the title.
