Screenwriter Haris Orkin has let slip some details about planned DLC for Resident Evil Requiem. During a recent interview at Meadowlark Comic Con, he hinted that upcoming downloadable content will delve deeper into the character of Oswell E. Spencer.
"I'm working on the DLC for Resident Evil Requiem right now," Orkin said. "We're working hand-in-hand."
In Requiem, Spencer was portrayed very differently from his previous appearances, transforming from a maniacal mastermind into a remorseful figure seeking redemption. It appears the DLC will explore that evolution further.
Later in the interview, Orkin discussed his philosophy for writing villains. He explained that his antagonists always see themselves as the heroes of their own stories.
"We have an arc for Spencer in Requiem," Orkin said. "Where you understand [that approach] more. And then in the DLC you will understand it even further. I probably shouldn't say that, but yeah."
He also touched on his approach to writing Grace, an FBI analyst with limited field experience. "I decided to put her on the spectrum," Orkin said. "She's an analyst. She's really an expert at figuring out clues, but she's not great at dealing with people. It was all part of creating that character."
The writer announced his two-and-a-half year collaboration with Capcom in February. Resident Evil Requiem launched that same month and earned an 89 Metascore. IGN's review gave it a 9/10, praising it for "successfully splicing two separate strains of survival horror together into the one highly infectious new mutation."
In March, director Koshi Nakanishi confirmed plans for a major story expansion for Resident Evil Requiem, though he didn't provide specifics. Presumably, the DLC Orkin mentions is that project.
By April, Resident Evil Requiem had sold over 7 million copies, with 5 million sold in the first five days. Producer Masato Kumazawa teased a potential Resident Evil game set in Japan, but Capcom isn't finished with Resident Evil remakes just yet.
